ENGL C1000: Academic Reading and Writing
Biography
Binh enjoys teaching and supporting others, just as he was supported and taught by excellent and compassionate teachers, including members of his own family. Each day, he continues to learn and grow by listening, speaking, reading and writing in English, his second language, and in Vietnamese, his first. He loves to travel because it reminds him to be humble. His ultimate goal is to leave lasting impressions through the art of teaching and through his lifelong passion for supporting and enabling others to fulfill their potential.
He studies Vietnamese American literature and is currently reading The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong, published in May 2025.
Inspired by Viet Thanh Nguyen鈥檚 work, Binh is teaching Nguyen鈥檚 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Sympathizer in his English 1A class. He embraces postmethod and cultural realism pedagogy and andragogy, concepts he learned in his TESOL methods class taught by Dr. B. Kumaravadivelu. At the heart of his approach is the belief in choosing to be successful.
