Guided by the theme βTogether in Purpose, Grounded in Belonging,β West ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ College hosted a vibrant lineup of events for Undocumented Student Success Week, observed Oct. 13β17 across California Community Colleges. The week underscored the importance of equity, advocacy, and belonging during a time when support for undocumented students remains vital across higher education.
The celebration opened with a keynote by poet and activist Yosimar Reyes, sponsored by the Puente Program. Faculty brought entire classes to hear his message of resilience and pride in immigrant identity while students enjoyed traditional pan dulce and hot chocolate.
More than 100 students joined an Activism in Action Luncheon to share a meal and reflect on the power of advocacy. Workshops, dance classes, and a spirited βBattle of the Vikings: Undocu Allies vs. Studentsβ competition built community and awareness across campus.
The week concluded with West ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ and Gavilan College students attending the annual Undocu Conference in Santa Cruz, followed by a community carne asada at the beach and a bonfire conversation circle led by Undocu therapist Gabriela Brown. The day offered space for healing, reflection, and joy β capturing the spirit of community in action and reaffirming West ΜμΡΔΙηΗψβs commitment to awareness, belonging, and expanding resources for Undocu students and their allies.
